Township of Langa

Entering the township of Langa. Townships
were a result of people (non-whites) being evicted
from their homes during a period called an apartheid. A
system of institutionalised racial segregation.

These were the first houses we saw.

This was a place that food would be made.
Essentially a restaurant.

These are lamb heads that were about to be
cooked.

We were inside one of the houses.

A building referred to as a hostile.
Essentially a very poor apartment complex.

Langa store. The money produced from
the products went towards the community.

This was a convenience store.

This was a hair salon. Fun fact, the townships get hair
imported all the way from the U.S even in their state
of poverty which is extreme.

The nicer parts of the townships called Beverly hills.
Each house was approximately 200 square feet
and had at least one satellite dish.

This was a church.

This was a hair salon.

This is when we were inside the tour guides house.

 This was a house.

This was a convenience store. Most convenience stores
were in the townships so inhabitants didn't
have to drive all the way to downtown to get a soda.
